“Centered on a rare interview that director and friend Tamra Davis shot with Basquiat over twenty years ago, this definitive documentary chronicles the meteoric rise and fall of the young artist. In the crime-ridden NYC of the 1970s, he covers the city with the graffiti tag SAMO. In 1981 he puts paint on canvas for the first time, and by 1983 he is an artist with “rock star status.” He achieves critical and commercial success, though he is constantly confronted by racism from his peers. In 1985 he and Andy Warhol become close friends and painting collaborators, but they part ways and Warhol dies suddenly in 1987. Basquiat’s heroin addiction worsens, and he dies of an overdose in 1988 at the age of 27. The artist was 25 years old at the height of his career, and today his canvases sell for more than a million dollars. With compassion and psychological insight, Tamra Davis details the mysteries that surround this charismatic young man, an artist of enormous talent whose fortunes mirrored the rollercoaster quality of the downtown scene he seemed to embody”.

A des miles des reportages officiels réalisés par la téloche de l'époque, "Welcome to the Jungle" est un chouette petit docu sur la scène jungle londonienne et plus notamment Rude FM, radio pirate super emblématique du genre, mais filmé de l'intérieur, sans star ni fard ni grillz en or massif.
Comme nous sommes en 1995, la jungle fixe encore la vie et l'excitation de toute la jeunesse locale, et ça se ressent jusque dans le montage et les microtrottoirs, particulièrement funky et délectables. On remercie le nerd Gold Seal Stable et le blog français True School Ways de nous replonger douze minutes dans cette époque magique où le futur avait l'air de couler des sillons de vinyle et des circuits imprimés d'Atari 1040 ST.

Bassline Baseline is a video essay that investigates the invention, failure and subsequent resurrection of the mythic Roland TB-303 Bass Line music machine in the last two decades of the 20th century. The narrative seeks to invite thoughts on technological mediation within product innovation and creative expression. Depuis une quinzaine d'années, l'accélération du progrès technique a permis de réaliser des prouesses impensables. Refaire marcher des personnes amputées grâce à une prothèse bionique ou passer un entretien professionnel face à un robot ne relève plus de la science fiction. La technologie est partout. Elle régit nos rapports sociaux et va s'immiscer jusque dans nos corps. Mais jusqu'où laisserons-nous encore aller nos machines ? C'est cette question récurrente, à l'origine de nombreuses oeuvres utopiques, que pose ici Philippe Borrel.
