4132314 was born from the desire to musically recreate the memory of the female workers of the former Barcelona textile factory Fabra i Coats. This project brings together for the first time three duos – Cocanha, Los Sara Fontán and Tarta Relena. The album is the result of a collective creative process, bridging textile history and sound experimentation.
Starting from a numerical textile pattern (taken from the book Le tissage à la main by Pierre Ryall, with motifs such as œil d’oie or moucheté), the composition of the album also involved collecting music and texts related to clothing and the work of weaving. The string tambourines and the violin evoke thread and looms, while the percussion refers to the machines and the sounds of the factory.
The voice is the backbone of 4132314’s music, reflecting a moment of social struggle and female solidarity experienced by the workers. Conversations with two of them, Puri and Carme, revealed the strength of this community, a spirit that permeates the composition and the choice of texts, including tracks such as “Mani” by Puri and Carme, which incorporates fragments of these encounters. Throughout the album, the textile pattern functions as a melodic source (“L’œil d’oie”, “Belle doette”, “Charmantina”), a syllabic source (“La Lan deus motons”, “Trap de la peseta”), a rhythmic source (“Jota de la seda”), and also as inspiration for rhythmic games and compositional techniques evoking machines and the intersections of fabric, as in “Minimal wave del remendar” or “Phasing de las 15.50”.
This is a co-release with Pagans Records and Gandula Records !
