Electropoem Series One presents stereo versions of ten multichannel electroacoustic compositions by Ali Balighi, originally created between 2024 and 2025. This collection includes Electropoem No. 4 through No. 13, and reflects the composer’s ongoing exploration of the relationship between poetry, sound, and spatial listening.
The Electropoem series is built on the idea that poetry can be expressed not only through language, but also through sound. Each piece begins with a poetic concept or experience and transforms it into music. Using a multichannel format, the original works were designed to move sound through space, offering an immersive experience. The stereo versions in this album maintain the core musical and poetic ideas in a two-channel format, making them more accessible for general listening while preserving the essential structure and textures of each piece.
Several compositions in the series are based on custom tuning systems such as ED3-14, ED2-09, ED2-11, ED2-10, and ED2-07. These systems divide harmonic intervals into equal parts, producing unique harmonic colors and supporting the exploration of new sonic landscapes. One work (Electropoem No. 12) includes recordings from the surface of Mars, incorporating environmental sounds captured by NASA's Perseverance rover to explore unfamiliar auditory conditions.
Across all pieces, the music emphasizes the role of silence, spatial awareness, and poetic atmosphere. The series reflects Balighi’s interest in combining his background in poetry with techniques from electroacoustic composition, microtonality, and sound design.
This album offers listeners a curated selection of works that consider how sound and poetry can meet in new and thoughtful ways.
