With four new albums by the living members of Faust’s legendary 1971–1974 line-up due for release on Bureau B this September, we take the opportunity to dive into the archives. This Outsiders episode explores the early years of the Krautrock pioneers: a band that sidestepped genre and expectation, forging a fractured, exploratory vision of rock music through tape experiments, improvised structures, and surreal collage. It also traces the band’s more accessible side, which briefly surfaces on Faust IV–only to be subverted once again.
