Aujourd'hui, on découvre un savoureux mix 100% Australian Tasty avec Monster Zoku Onsomb!

    1963-1993....

Mr Kiki Ill and Miss Penelope Leisure from Monster Zoku Onsomb! present an hours worth of influential tunes from their teenage years.. "This is a slice of Australian music from the 1960's to the early 90's" says Penelope, "we have kept our selection to Australian bands only, as we had too many "influential" trax to try to choose from." "And" Kiki adds, "it's worth sharing the sound of Australia around as we don't think that too many people outside of OZ will have heard these tunes. Here's hoping that you enjoy some of them .. and lets have a bit of a laugh!".

    The Sound of '80s Australia.

The 1980's were our teenage years and luckily for us, our home town of Brisbane had a community radio station. 4ZZZfm was our life line. It had been broadcasting for about 10 years and had cultivated a generation of bedroom radio addicts. We were absorbing it all from the airwaves: music from all over the world, left wing politics, activism and most importantly, as we were now at an age to hit the streets - a live gig guide. We were tuned in and going out 3 times a week. Under age and desperate for stimulation, we club hopped and went to live shows all over town. We had fake ID, usually in the form of an older friends learners drivers licence. As long as you were roughly the same height and of similar eye colour, it was easy to bluff your way past the doorman using this "legal" bit of paper. No photo ID and less rules in those days.

It wasn't unusual to drive an hour either up or down the coast to dance at clubs that were representing something other than top 40 tunes for the "yuppies". Dance Dance Dance - that was our objective. We had no money to buy drinks, and usually stole the $3 to pay the cover charge from mum and dads phone-money jar. We saw bands from all over the country and sometimes.. yes, even insignificant Brisbane was visited by international bands!
Brisbane was a possible touring destination because of radio 4ZZZfm. Audiences switched on and the youth gathered! Easts Leagues Club was a favourite venue. You just had to sign yourself in past the ancient doormen, hit the bar ($1.70 beers!) or sneak in a plastic bag or "goon" of cheap wine, experience the sweaty and respectful crush of the crowd, and then get out in time for the last bus home to the suburbs. Once ensconced in your bedroom you would switch on the radio under your pillow and hear the announcers talking about the show you had just been to while they played the latest release from your favourite new band.
