    OORUTAICHI “Drifting my folklore”
    Osaka based Oorutaichi has rubbed shoulders with Kenji Haino asnd Ruins, collaborated with oddball popsters
    Momus and Taku Hannoda, and been producing his solo take on pop since 1999 .The present release is a mixture
    of tracks from his 2003 debut CD Oorutaichi Yori Yoyo and an even earlier EP also bearing the title Drifting
    my folklore.Sadly, the heady T Rex homage “Negro shrine jungle” is not included , but here are ten examples
    of Oorutaichi’s high-spirited and outlandish styling,often featuring invented language. There’s plenty of
    Residents-style weirdness and geeky Aphex Twin-esque mucking about, while his utterly synthetic sound world
    seems in direct descent from Yellow Magic Ochestra. A typically hyperactive multiple synth pile-up on “Beshaby”
    is offset, or possibly made worse, by a whining vocal. “Pan 1 Nonaki” is the only track to slow down, and a kind of
    exotica emerge, though Oorutaichi’s jungle is made of microprocessors rather than lianas. The sturdiest song is
    “UiUi-Mar-Chan”,where a stuttering organ supports a decent melody, like a high speed sea shanty from some
    digitized ocean.In Oorutaichi’s world the machines have long since taken over, but the effort has sent them
    round the bend, where they encounter their dada reflections. Manically cheerful, it’s like being trapped in a
    gym full of exercising holograms, and the song “MISEN Gymnastics” indeed incorporates a keep fit routine.

    DJ MAHO THAI DISCO

    And at this day and age, we've discovered this new genre! well, we didnt know it existed... THAI DISCO is the name and strange, druggout out, chaotic, rhytmic percussion infested disco with thai vocals on top is the game. Maho*Thaidisco is one of the best dj's in this genre and a personal favorite of THE BOREDOMS. She'll supply you with the best and hottest tracks in the genre!


    SPACE PONCH (aka KISHINO YUICHI)

    Space Ponch est un groupe japonais étrange -et ce, même selon les critères japonais. Sorti sur Transonic puis repris sur Moikai (le label de Jim O’Rourke), Space Ponch (la créature étrange de la pochette, mélange entre Chewbacca, un tronc d’arbre et un barbapapa) permet donc aux habitants de la galaxie de faire leurs courses au son d’un singulier orchestre électronique, très influencé par Jean-Jacques Perrey et Gershon Kingsley, Yello Magic Orchestra ou Raymond Scott.

    On a donc droit à une dose déraisonnable de Vocoder, de synthés vintage, de bruitages fifties venus (évidemment) d’une planète interdite et de multiples cartoons hystériques. Pourtant, le disque commence par un doux morceau très aérien (Barefoot in Baltimore), vraiment comme chez Air ou les Gentle People avec force ambiance Tiki et vibraphone de jungle. Raymint Scott est évidemment l’hommage à Raymond, aussi génial que pyrotechnique, un véritable orchestre de fête foraine survolté, tandis que Batanga cha cha cha et Debard honorent les maîtres Perrey/Kingsley (et peut-être aussi Guy Debord -revu par Charlie Oleg). Avec Kinga crew, on pénètre de plain-pied dans le domaine de l’étrange : Barnum rencontre Fritz Lang. Un peu d’inquiétude s’installe. GMW abuse du vocoder de façon assez inhabituelle, tous les records sont battus en neige. Ca ne s’améliore pas avec How to murder your wife, si faussement joyeux qu’il donne des frissons glacés de peur. On n’est pas loin de s’être égaré dans un cauchemar du Prisonnier, entourés de geishas aux dents longues. Ce n’est pas la Tati suite, longue de huit minutes, qui reprend les thèmes des films de Jacques qui va nous rassurer : changements de rythmes permanents, accords à moitié faux, arpèges superposés, la tête nous tourne sur le manège, à cause de ce satané Ponch de l’espace. Tengs of thugs est du pur YMO (vive les synthés casio de 1980 !), le titre éponyme de l’album est une longue dérive ambient et quasi électro-acoustique de quinze minutes, finalement assez décalée dans ce disque hypocritement gai, qui se termine par un délire analogique pas loin d’Add N To X, agressif et méchant comme un bidule de la galaxie.

    Bref, un disque dans lequel règne une douce folie, amusante et malaisée, sentiment renforcé, évidemment, par l’extrême soin apporté aux compositions. En fait, on devrait faire ses courses plus souvent avec un peu de Space Ponch dans le nez : ça nous permettrait de rencontrer Space Ponch et peut-être de retrouver une âme d’enfant.
